Welcome to Smithwick Station:

From Rescue to Release: Our Commitment to the Wild

Our Promise

At Smithwick Station, we believe that every creature—no matter how small—deserves a chance to thrive. Nestled in the heart of Georgia's diverse landscapes, we are committed to healing, protecting, and reintroducing the region's small wildlife. From the playful leaps of fawns to the agile scamper of squirrels and the quiet wander of opossums, our mission is to ensure that the spirit of nature endures in every life we touch.

Our dedicated team of wildlife rehabbers and volunteers work tirelessly to provide a sanctuary for these vulnerable wonders. Beyond rehabilitation, we also strive to educate our community about the vital roles these animals play in our ecosystem. Through hands-on care, heartfelt outreach, and your invaluable support, we aim to foster a deeper connection between humans and the natural world.

Meet the Team

My life has been intricately woven with a deep and abiding love for all animals and wildlife. From my earliest memories, I was captivated by the wonders of the natural world, and my passion for animals only grew stronger with each passing day. As a child, I spent hours exploring the woods, catching insects, and watching in awe as deer, snakes, and squirrels went about their daily routines. My parents, recognizing my deep connection with nature, encouraged my curiosity. As I grew older, my love for wildlife blossomed into a commitment to their welfare. I spent several semesters in college volunteering at the SouthEastern Raptor Center in Auburn, AL and knew that I wanted to continue my involvement with wildlife on a deeper level in the future. In 2022, I finally took the next steps to become a licensed wildlife rehabilitator through the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Since then, Smithwick Station was formed and has seen dozens of creatures come through our doors, from possums, to squirrels, to fawns. Today, we primarily take in fawns, as they have become my true passion. My husband, Charles, and kids - Owen, Charlotte, and Savannah - have all been a part of this journey and are developing their own sense of purpose in their experiences. I couldn't do it without their support.
